The European Squid is a squid of the Loliginidae family. It is a large squid that resides in a vast stretch of ocean from the North Sea to the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Africa, living in depths that range from 1,600 feet below to sea level. It is also seen as a commercially valuable species, being fished for at a large rate, especially in the Adriatic Sea, where 1,000 to 1,500 tonnes of European squid are hauled in each year.
It's Cardiovascular System (and that of most squids)
The closed circulatory system of a squid contains 3 hearts: one main heart, and 2 feeder hearts that feed blood into the squid's gills. This is due to their size. They both surround the main heart. They are surrounded by renal sacs that act as the squid's excretory system. Their faint kidneys stretch from the squid's heart to it's liver; thus they are hard to identify. The main heart is made up of a lower ventricle and 2 upper auricles.
